The Role
We are looking for a strong people leader with commercial savvy to join our team as our Waikato Regional Manager

This is a career defining opportunity to make a real difference to our highly successful and growing organisation in a senior leadership role.  Reporting to the General Manager, Central Region this senior leadership role will provide effective area wide leadership. As the Waikato Regional Manager you will drive a highly motivated and productive contract management team to consistently deliver services for Downer’s Transport Services clients.

You’ll focus on developing and implementing strategies to ensure profitable growth across all businesses in the area. The turnover of this business in circa $90M per annum, so plenty to keep busy. The portfolio of contracts is diverse including alliance’s, long term maintenance contracts and a new construction division.   And our client base includes the private sector, local and central government.  You will be combining enhancement of current performance and strategically growing the business to ensure relevance in the sector.

Over and above the day to day, as the Waikato Regional Manager, you will take an active role in supporting and delivering key regional and national initiatives. This includes monitoring and driving the regions completion and compliance against key tasks such as performance review cycles, operational business reviews and system/process implementation.

About you
You’ll be someone who will own the performance of your business.  To be successful you will have a strong track record of implementing and delivering sustainable business results, leading diverse teams and stakeholder management. It is paramount that you have a strong operational business management background to hit the ground running in this role. You will have previously had responsibility and accountability for staff, plant and return on investment in a large complex operation. 

It is preferable you have an understanding of long term funding sources for government and non-government clients, or be able to demonstrate how this knowledge will be gained. You’ll bring with you a dynamic and inspirational leadership style and a strategic mind-set.  

You'll come with demonstrated experience in delivering complex maintenance, construction and operations services, preferably from construction and infrastructure sectors.  And you'll have expertise as a senior leader who can create and deliver a strong customer focused culture.  

You’ll also be in possession of

  • passion and drive to put plans into action and bring others on that journey,
  • the ability to work under pressure in a fully integrated team environment,
  • proven business and commercial acumen,
  • excellent written and oral communication skills with an ability to influence and
  • proven customer relationship skills, both in building new and maintaining existing relationships.
