We are looking for a Branch Manager to join our Transport Services operations in in Gisborne.

Reporting to the East Coast Regional Manager, you’ll provide effective area wide leadership ensuring a highly motivated and productive field team consistently delivering services for our clients.  

About the role
This is a highly people focussed role with great opportunities to shape, live and embed our culture of collaboration and trust with both our staff and our clients.  Your mantra will be he tangata, he tangata, he tangata.

With five direct reports and approximately 230 indirects, a key focus of this role initially will be around building and maintaining a strong engaged team culture, which will help to drive business performance.

We want to be the preferred partner for our customers, lead the way in our industries, attract and retain the very best people and as well as keeping our people safe at all times.  As such you’ll act as a client relations manager, being a key liaison between our clients and customers, developing strong steady relationships as well as providing guidance and advice ensuring the customer’s needs are met.

Your success will be measured by delivering results in the following:

  • Developing local business opportunities through having a strong focus on the customer
  • Improving and embedding strong relationships with key stakeholders including clients, and subcontractors
  • Enhancing manager competencies to ensure the ongoing success of the business into the future
  • Ownership of financial management to drive excellence


You’ll be all about working and collaborating together to making things happen, fostering positive relationships, and be solution focused.  Leading from the front will result in an enriched reputation for delivery and performance of Downer. 

About you
As someone with strong emotional intelligence, you’ll have passion and drive; smarts and commercial acumen; courage; a collaborative and team based focus; a commitment to Human Resource and Zero Harm with keeping our people safe. 

As a confident presenter you’ll be able to tailor your message to your audience, taking complex information and turning it into plain English.  You’ll also have a proven track record of operational excellence and delivering on operational promises and commercial outcomes.

You’ll couple this with:

  • Excellent communication skills and an ability to engage and influence at all levels
  • Proven experience in delivering complex construction, maintenance and operational services, preferably from construction and roading sectors
  • Experience in working at a senior leadership team level internally and with customers
  • Demonstrated experience in working collaboratively
  • The ability to create and deliver a strong customer focus culture
  • Ability to work under pressure in a fully integrated team environment
