We now have an exciting opportunity for a Foreperson to join our team working within the Milford Road Alliance. The Alliance is a partnership with the NZ Transport Agency to manage and maintain State Highway 94 to Milford Sound. The Milford Road is unlike any other road in the country with its many challenges including weather, terrain and remoteness.

This hands-on role will see you providing leadership to a close-knit crew, overseeing works, providing direction and working closely with a Supervisor. You will be ensuring that work is completed to the satisfaction of our customers and that all targets (productivity, quality and safety) are met.

About you

You’ll be a seasoned leader with experience within the maintenance space, particularly in winter conditions. A people person, you’ll be strong at building relationships with key stakeholders including subcontractors and the public.

You’ll also have:

  • Strong organisation and planning skills with an ability to deal with unexpected events, including weather, geotech and traffic and provide clear direction to operational teams
  • Team leadership skills and the ability to motivate and mentor a team with a “continual improvement” philosophy
  • A flexible work approach to deal with unexpected events/make decisions and provide direction to work teams, as no two days are the same
  • High standard of workmanship
  • Excellent communication skills both verbal and written
  • Strong safety and quality focus
