About the role:

The Southern Transport Construction team has an opportunity for an experienced Estimator to join their busy team based in Dunedin.

With a strong construction pipeline in the Civil Construction sector, our business is well positioned to continue on this growth trajectory. The successful applicant will be expected to add value to an experienced construction team with estimating expertise across a range of integrated roading construction and maintenance projects.

Key responsibilities will include liaising with delivery managers, tender preparation and estimating, negotiation and handover, and evaluation and performance appraisal of subcontractors and suppliers – just to name a few!

You will also:

• Interpret plans, regulations and codes of practice
• Inspect work and materials for compliance with specifications, regulations and standards, and calculating costs and estimating time scales
• Perform routine computations and plotting preliminary data

About you:

Our preferred candidate would have a strong background in Civil Estimating with proven commercial and operational experience in a project’s environment.  This is a hands-on role, and experience with proprietary estimating software packages is a must. Additionally, we are looking at applications that present proven experience in the following areas:

• Strong industry experience with a good understanding of asset components
• Experience with proprietary estimating packages (e.g. CANDY, CostX, Benchmark)
• Advanced Excel skills
• Strong commercial / numerical and analytical ability with a diligent eye for detail
• Well-developed written and verbal communication skills
• High level negotiation and analytical skills
• Sound working knowledge of Project Management principles
• Proven ability to work under pressure and prioritise
• Experience in a structured tendering environment
