About the job: 
We have a unique position in the Downer Maintenance team, based in Whanganui as an Urban Vegetation Controller. This is a varied role working outdoors to enhance public spaces for the enjoyment and safety of your community.  
 
With a keen eye for detail, you’ll undertake a range of maintenance activities including; weed control through the safe use of herbicides, street cleaning, clearing vegetation and knapsack work.  You’ll be comfortable working on your own but you will also not be afraid to get stuck in and help the wider crew as needed.  
 
This is primarily a Monday – Friday, Full Time, Permanent role but the flexibility to work occasional weekends and early shifts and the willingness to work in various weather conditions is required.  
 
About you: 

Along with a strong work ethic, great communication skills and general common sense, there are a few other essentials but don’t stress too much if you don’t tick them all off, we are prepared to train you; 

• A Class 1 & 2 Full New Zealand Drivers Licence  

• Experience with the chemical application, e.g. Growsafe qualification 

• A high level of physical fitness and a focus on safety & quality 

• Great communication skills to liaise with the team and the general public 

• The willingness to be trained and train others 

• Flexibility to work to varying hours and weather conditions
