The Systems & Configuration Engineering Discipline Manager is responsible for managing a team of qualified design/assurance engineers with specialty skills in systems engineering and configuration management that provide engineering services to Projects within the business.
The role reports to the General Manager Engineering Capability & Assurance, and will seek and maintain collaborative working relationships with the Engineering & Technology Leadership Team and major external stakeholders (Client Engineering Team).
The Systems & Configuration Engineering Discipline Manager is responsible for up to 10 or 15 direct reports, and leads, fosters, motivates and empowers the Systems & Configuration team to succeed personally and professionally.
The Discipline Manager:
assigns staff to perform specific Project roles/tasks and makes decisions concerning staff recruitment, staff selection, competency management, training, grading, discipline and remuneration.
liaises with associated engineering disciplines including manufacturing liaison, configuration control, systems safety assurance and Engineering Support.
is responsible for ensuring that effective systems are implemented and utilised which deliver defined business objectives whilst ensuring overall compliance to regulatory requirements.
is responsible for the engineering administrative function and has achieved recognition as an authority in an engineering field of major importance to the organisation.
reviews and evaluates technical work.
independently conceives programs and participates in discussions determining basic operating policies and of meeting any unusual conditions affecting work progress.
Required
Minimum 15 years relevant experience in rollingstock design/assurance or equivalent
Demonstrated experience and skills in Systems Engineering and Configuration Management
Degree qualifications – relevant Engineering or equivalent.
Be Registered or working towards becoming Registered on the National Engineering Register and membership of a relevant professional institution, such as Engineers Australia.
Detailed knowledge of the application of EN50126/EN50128/EN50129 and ISO15288 to the rail environment in Australia
Highly developed oral and written communication skills, including the ability to conduct detailed investigations and provide clear and decisive results and written reports
Excellent analytical and problem-solving skills with the ability to provide rapid and effective engineering support to management and trade staff
Excellent computer skills with experience in the development and management of information systems
Experience with leveraging the value of Requirements Management tools (e.g. CORE, DOORS).
