About the role
RTS have a permanent opportunity for a Technical Fleet Specialist to join our high performing team at our Auburn Fleet Maintenance Centre, working a 24 x 7 roster on our Waratah, Millennium and Sydney Growth Train fleets.
This is a specialist role designed to deliver the provision of technical and functional subject matter expertise for the operation, support and development of the fleet and reliability performance.
You will monitor and collate fault data for train systems, with a focus on day to day/medium term support, reliability and performance of the fleet. This will include detailed fault identification and analysis in order to support the attributions and continuous improvement process.
Key accountabilities
Provide technical support functions to all departments of the Rail business/operations.
Develop and issue reliability reports and propose rollingstock performance improvement programs.
Develop condition monitoring systems to review and monitor rollingstock performance.
Actively support the development of design, modification and installation specifications along with commissioning plans.
Work with the broader team to further evaluate and develop acceptance tests and inspection criteria.
Provide input to a risk management plan that will anticipate reliability-related and non-reliability-related risks that could adversely impact on fleet availability and sustainability.
Professionally and systematically define, design, develop, monitor and refine an asset maintenance plan including value-added preventive maintenance tasks.
Investigates defects and incidents to support the incident attribution.
Investigates technical issues, captures data and raises FRACAS as required.
Provides feedback against preventative and corrective maintenance procedures.
Reports on subsystem root cause analysis to identify key areas for improvement.
Helps predict the future reliability of the fleet.
Skills and knowledge required
Mechanical or Electrical Tertiary Engineering qualification or other relevant trade qualification.
Experience in the maintenance of complex electrical and mechanical systems, the use of PC based fault diagnostic tools, and implementation of reliability programs in a rolling stock, asset management or heavy maintenance industry.
Experience dealing with customers on fleet performance & reliability matters.
Knowledge of engineering processes, including failure-reporting and investigations.
Knowledge of applicable RAMS standards and established RAMS targets for new/existing rolling stock.
Solid knowledge of formal engineering change processes and reliability improvement processes.
Knowledge of quality assurance procedures.
Trouble shooting procedures and methods.
Experience working in Rail industry (>5 years) preferred but not essential.
