Downer Defence provides Estate Maintenance and Operation Services (EMOS) for the Department of Defence in Queensland and Southern New South Wales. As lead contractor within the region, we deliver a suite of services to support Defence capability
The Role
The role will create, inspire, and effect sustainable change in safety performance, mindset, and behaviours. This will include rolling out a multi-year national safety program, acting as the subject matter expert on safety leadership, best practice, risk management, reporting, employee health and environmental credentials. You will also build trusted relationships, coaching and mentoring the ACT leadership team, and broader employee population. With a finger on the pulse of the culture, this role always embodies a proactive approach to safety.
Reporting to the National Zero Harm Manager with direct access to the General Manager Zero Harm, this role transcends the traditional safety and compliance remit, with a significant focus on guiding cultural change with a willing audience, instilling a consistent and disciplined safety culture across the Downer Defence Division.
Some of the duties this role requires are:
Providing advice and support to management and staff within the Downer Defence Division on a wide range of safety matters;
Coordinating and implementing WHS strategies that deliver the highest quality outcomes and suitably trained staff for the Downer Defence Division;
Driving early intervention and influencing early return to work outcomes;
Coordinating reviews and facilitating changes to Safe Work Procedures, Risk Assessments and safety management plans;
Tracking lead indicators across the ACT region to contribute and influence change and enhance culture;
About You
Suitability for Defence security clearance (Australian citizenship mandatory).
Valid Australian Driver’s Licence
A minimum of three years’ experience in a similar role.
Formal WHS Qualification (minimum diploma in Workplace Health and Safety).
ICAM lead investigator or similar root cause analysis training (desirable)
WHS and Injury Management experience, including WHS management systems.
Demonstrated ability to coordinate end to end WHS auditing activities.
Thorough understanding WHS legislation.
Collaborative with ability to work effectively as a member of a team
Excellent attention to detail, communication, time-management and organisation skills.
